First Season of Women's IPL to Start Early Next Year

The first season for the much-anticipated women's IPL is expected to start from early in 2023, said BCCI president Sourav Ganguly.

The success of men’s IPL which took off in 2008 and has witnessed rapid growth has put it on the list of the world’s most valuable sports leagues.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has reportedly sent an email to all the state association units that the Women’s IPL is expected to begin early next year.

This good news comes on the back of the Indian women’s team's first ODI series win in England since 1999, as they won the 2nd ODI by 88 runs.

Harmanpreet Kaur led from the front with a brutal 143* and Harleen Deol made a fifty as India posted 333/5 in 50 overs. In reply, Renuka Singh’s 4/57 folded England for 245 runs.

Australia (women’s Big Bash League) and England (Women’s Cricket Super League and The Hundred) already have professional cricket leagues for women.

Additionally, Ganguly also informed that the board is introducing a new U-15 tournament for girls from this season onwards which they hope will open a path for them to play international cricket.
