Adipurush is the worst possible way to show the great Ramayana. Worthless and a waste of time to watch cartoons for such a huge budget. Inspired by Ramayana, the movie features Prabhas as Raghav (Shri Rama), Kriti Sanon as Janaki (Mother Sita) and Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh – the lord of Lanka (Demon King Ravana). Director Om Raut and actors are being trolled on social media for some scenes. Despite the controversies, the film has earned a lot on the first day.
The highest-rated and user-favourite film based on Ramayana was not even made in India. In 1992, Japanese filmmaker Yugo Sako produced and directed the anime version of Ramayana, an Indo-Japanese production titled Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama. The animated film was made in both Hindi and English with Arun Govil reprising his role in the Hindi version and being joined by Amrish Puri as Ravana and Shatrughan Sinha as the narrator.
Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama was appreciated worldwide. It was banned in India at the time because of the communal environment during the Babri Masjid riots. The Hindi version was eventually aired on Doordarshan in 1995. Both versions are available on YouTube now. The film has a rating of 9.2 on IMDb, higher than all films based on Ramayana and even Ramanand Sagar’s evergreen TV show.
VFX is so mediocre, Saif Ali Khan as Ravana looks like a cross between Khilji & Aurangzeb. Costumes and hairstyles are outrageous. You see Ravana with spiked hair and Prabhas as Rama wearing sleeveless T-shirts. Ravana looks more like someone with multiple personality disorder conversing with all his different personalities than someone with actual 10 heads. Little kids who like superhero movies might enjoy it for the VFX, but in my opinion, it has been overhyped.
The film has collected Rs 98 crore from India. Adipurush might collect Rs 58 crore from the Telugu version and Rs 35 crore from Hindi all over the Indian regions. The film has collected approximately Rs 35 ccrore from the overseas market and the overall earning for the first day worldwide was Rs 133 crore.
