YouTube Introduces New Tool to Combat Deepfake Videos
YouTube is launching a specialized tool to help creators identify deepfake videos, allowing them to detect when their faces have been manipulated. Additionally, this tool will provide the ability to recognize AI-generated voices.
For some time, YouTube has been working to enhance platform security and curb the spread of deepfake content. In June this year, the platform updated its privacy policies, allowing users to report AI-generated videos. Now, YouTube is developing a new tool to make it easier to detect AI-manipulated faces and voices, helping to prevent such content from going viral.
Face Detection Feature on the Horizon
According to an official blog post from YouTube, the company is working on an AI-powered face detection tool. This feature will allow creators and artists to monitor and manage content that uses their likeness through artificial intelligence. Additionally, YouTube will introduce a “Synthetic-Singing Identification” technology, which will help identify AI-generated singing voices.
When Will Testing Begin?
YouTube plans to start testing this face detection tool in early 2025 as part of a pilot program. After successful testing, the tool is expected to officially launch by mid-2025. As of now, no specific launch date has been confirmed by the platform.
New Feature Launched Recently
In related news, YouTube recently rolled out the “Thumbnail Test & Compare” feature. This allows creators to test and select the most effective thumbnail for their videos. The company believes this feature will improve video presentation and attract more viewers. Many creators have already embraced this new feature.
