iPhone Fold vs. Galaxy Z Fold 7: Surprise Pricing Revealed

Apple is about to release its very first foldable iPhone, and people are talking about it even before it officially comes out. Rumors say that this new foldable phone, called the iPhone Fold, might cost less than many expected—especially when compared to Samsung’s latest foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

A report from a company called UBS, shared by Fortune, says the iPhone Fold could cost between $1,800 and $2,000. That’s cheaper than the earlier guess of $2,400 and less expensive than Samsung’s foldable phone. But it will still be more expensive than another foldable phone called Vivo X Fold 5, which costs less.

When it’s folded, the iPhone Fold might be a little thicker than Samsung’s Z Fold 7. Reports say it could be around 9.5 millimeters thick when folded, while Samsung’s is about 8.9 millimeters. Why might it be cheaper? Experts think Apple is saving money on some parts like memory, processors, and cameras, which helps lower the price. Even though some parts are cheaper, Apple still uses fancy materials for the outside and the hinge (the part that helps it fold).

People also talk about how the new iPhone Fold might be very slim—possibly the thinnest Apple device ever. Some experts say it could be just 4.8 millimeters thick when open, which is even thinner than the current thinnest Apple device, the iPad Pro M4, which is 5.1 millimeters thick.
