WhatsApp has begun rolling out its new Status Mention feature, allowing users to tag contacts directly in their status updates—similar to Instagram’s mention feature. When you mention a contact, they’ll receive a notification and will also have the option to share your status, just like on Instagram.
WhatsApp Status Mentions
The Status Mention feature is available for both Android and iOS users. If it isn’t visible on your device yet, ensure your app is updated from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. If it’s still unavailable, it may take some time as the feature is gradually rolling out to all users.
How to Use the Mention Feature
- Open WhatsApp and go to Updates.
- Select the photo or video for your status.
- In the caption bar, tap the @ icon on the right.
- Your contact list will appear, allowing you to mention anyone from it.
Once tagged, the mentioned contact will receive a notification and have the ability to share your status. This feature brings WhatsApp status updates closer to the experience of Instagram stories.
