WhatsApp Rolls Out New Feature for Searching Images on the Web
Introduction
WhatsApp has introduced an exciting new feature allowing users to search images directly on the web from within the app. This feature, currently available to select users, makes it easier to find more information about images shared through the platform.
New Search Capability Within WhatsApp
The new feature enables WhatsApp users to search photos directly on the web, something that was previously unavailable on the popular Meta-owned app. Now, users can search for images shared by friends on WhatsApp without leaving the app, thanks to a dedicated option designed for this purpose. However, at this stage, it’s only accessible to a limited number of users.
Feature Discovery by WABetainfo
WABetainfo, a platform that tracks upcoming WhatsApp features, reported this development in its latest report. The WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.23.13 on the Google Play Store introduced the feature named Search Images on the Web, allowing users to perform web-based image searches from within WhatsApp itself.
How to Use the Search on Web Feature
According to a screenshot shared in the report, using the feature is straightforward:
- Open the photo you wish to search.
- Click on the three-dot menu icon in the top-right corner.
- Among the options, you’ll find Search on Web just above Set As.
- Tap this option to initiate a direct search for the image on the web.
Enhanced User Control and Transparency
This feature allows users to gain more information about images found on WhatsApp, adding a layer of transparency and control over the content shared within conversations. It’s a step forward in providing users with tools to verify and understand the content they receive.
Availability and Future Release
At present, the Search Images on Web feature is only available to Android beta users. WhatsApp plans to release this feature to all users in future stable app updates. Keep an eye out for the feature in your app’s upcoming updates.
