A total of 1,166 players were selected for the auction, but there are only 77 spots available to fill up. Mahendra Singh Dhoni will lead Chennai Super Kings in the IPL this year. However, Dhoni may not be seen on the ground again from the mega auction next year. Therefore, CSK may be considering Ruturaj Gaikwad as the next captain. Ravindra Jadeja stepped down from that post last season. Some fans think that Ruturaj can’t take the pressure of such a big franchise, he can continue as a normal player. CSK will try to purchase some big names in the auction this year to make them captain in the future.

He said Stokes could be the captain of Chennai Super Kings once the Indian icon decides to step down. But CSK has released Ben Stokes ahead of the upcoming IPL 2024 auction. Moeen Ali could be a good option for CSK as the future captain after Dhoni’s retirement. Apart from captaincy, this English star can also perform well as an all-rounder. Although he was never seen captaining any IPL teams in past. But his techniques are very good. He has experienced leading the England national team in some matches.

Pat Cummins

Aussie skipper Pat Cummins has won the World Test Championship and World Cup as captain in the past few months. Pat Cummins has registered his name in the auction this time, despite not playing in the IPL last season. Head coach Stephen Fleming has shown interest in him. CSK can look at Pat Cummins as an alternative captain. He is a captain as well as a reliable bowler in the pace department. His batting skills are also very good.
