COVID-19 in India: Active cases climb to 1,009

The health officials in India checked the situation last week. They said most of the cases are mild, which means people are feeling okay and are taking care of themselves at home.

Many countries, like Singapore and Hong Kong, are also seeing more COVID-19 cases lately. The officials also said that these new variants don’t seem to spread faster or make people sicker than the old versions of the virus.

They are watching very carefully to keep everyone safe. India recently found about 1,009 people who still have COVID-19. A few weeks ago, on May 19, there were only 257 people sick, but now the numbers have gone up, especially in places like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Maharashtra. Scientists have also found some new tiny versions of the virus, called variants, named NB.1.8.1 and LF.7. India saw one case of NB.1.8.1 in Tamil Nadu in April, and four cases of LF.7 in May.

The World Health Organization (WHO), which is a big group that watches over health around the world, says these variants are being watched but are not as dangerous as other variants that cause more serious illness.
