WhatsApp Introduces Instagram-Like Feature: Users Can Now Apply Filters to Photos and Videos

WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature that allows users to apply filters to photos and videos directly through the app’s camera, similar to Instagram. Meta’s instant messaging platform now offers Camera Effects, enabling users to enhance their media with various filters and backgrounds. However, this feature is currently available to a limited group of users. Here’s a closer look at the new update.

WhatsApp’s New Feature

The latest WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.20.20, available on the Google Play Store, reveals the introduction of camera effects. According to WABetaInfo, a website known for tracking WhatsApp updates, the app is gradually rolling out this feature.

The previous WhatsApp Beta 2.24.16.7 update had already introduced AR filters and effects for video calls, allowing users to personalize their conversations with new visual tools. Now, WhatsApp is expanding these features, integrating them into the camera for photos and videos as well.

New Filter Button in Camera

The report also includes a screenshot showing a new filter button in the WhatsApp camera interface. With just one tap, users can now apply filters to enhance their photos and videos, making it more convenient to edit content before capturing it. Initially, these effects were exclusive to video calls, but WhatsApp has now extended this functionality to its camera.

The filters include options such as skin smoothing, which improves complexion by reducing blemishes and evening out skin tone. Users can quickly toggle between filters, allowing for real-time editing before snapping their photos or recording videos.

Keep in mind that this feature is currently limited to select Android users, but it will gradually be made available to all users in upcoming updates.
