WhatsApp Introduces Status Update Mention Feature
WhatsApp has launched a new feature for its users, similar to Instagram’s functionality. The popular messaging app is rolling out the Status Update Mention feature, which allows users to mention their contacts in status updates, much like Instagram’s story mentions. After extensive development, the feature is finally available, though only to select users at this stage. Let’s dive into the details.
WhatsApp Status Update Mention Feature
The latest WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.20.3, now available on the Google Play Store, reveals the rollout of this feature, according to a report by WABetaInfo, a website known for tracking upcoming WhatsApp features.
What’s New?
A screenshot shared in the report shows a new option on the status update screen. Users will now see a mention option in the caption bar. By tapping this, you can tag contacts from your list, and their names will appear below the status text.
It’s important to note that this option will be available before you publish the status, making it easier to choose the contacts you want to mention. Once you mention someone, they’ll receive a notification and a message in their chat indicating that they’ve been tagged in your status.
Currently, this feature is limited to a selected group of beta users, but it is expected to be available to all users in the stable version soon.
