India’s Maharashtra state is worried about kids and teenagers playing online games too much, especially games that can cause problems. The leader of the state, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, asked the government to help because many people are getting addicted, losing money, or even hurting themselves because of these games.
This isn’t about stopping fun games that kids play just to have fun or compete. It’s about stopping the bad parts, like gambling and betting, that can cause real problems. The goal is to keep gaming safe and fun for everyone. He has already written to the government’s IT Minister to take action. Many other leaders in Maharashtra also spoke about how online games can harm young people. One leader shared a sad story about a man who played online games so much that he lost his house, owed a lot of money, and sadly, he hurt his family and himself.
Maharashtra has started special campaigns to teach people about these dangers and has opened 50 police stations that focus on online safety. On July 18, 2025, the leader said that Maharashtra wants to do something, but most of these games are made outside India. Only the big national government can make rules about them, so he’s asking them to help.
Last year, the Indian government also talked about ways to help, like setting time limits for playing online games and controlling how much money can be spent. Chief Minister Fadnavis also asked famous people to stop promoting these gaming apps because some ads can trick young kids into spending too much money or playing too long. The state might even stop showing these ads to help protect children. They are working hard to fight online fraud and to make kids more aware of these problems.
