Register Now for Indian Citizenship in CAA Online Portal

The CAA passed in 2019, allows minorities seeking refuge in India before December 31, 2014, to obtain citizenship. Six minority groups, including Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, and Parsis, can apply for Indian citizenship. To apply, visit the specified portal and submit the necessary documents.

The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is expected to be implemented soon, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi planning to introduce a new law. The central government will launch a separate online portal specifically for CAA applications, allowing people to apply online. Selected applicants can easily apply online through this portal.

The practice has begun for citizenship law, but the launch date for the web portal is unknown. Reports suggest it might start in late March when the amended Citizenship Act is implemented. The online portal will follow the Act’s implementation. The CAA portal’s development has been ongoing for a while, but it hasn’t officially begun because it lacks government clearance. The portal is expected to go live once the law is in effect.

You can apply online to confirm if you’re an Indian citizen once the CAA portal is available. Register here, and the government will review your application. If your documents are correct, citizenship will be granted. The required documents for the CAA portal aren’t clear yet, but make sure they’re valid and accurate. Before the portal launches, make sure to correct any errors in your identity documents such as Aadhaar cards or PAN cards. The government might announce soon whether you can apply at home or need to go to a nearby centre.
