A leader from Bangladesh named Sheikh Hasina, who used to be the prime minister, was sentenced to spend six months in prison for not being respectful to a court.
This is the first time she has been punished in a court case since she left the country about a year ago. Another person named Shakil Akand Bulbul was also sentenced to two months in prison for the same reason.
Sheikh Hasina says she didn’t do anything wrong and will tell the court why she shouldn’t be punished. She left Bangladesh and moved to India in August 2024, after the government changed.
Now, she is staying in a safe house in New Delhi. Last year, the court said that Sheikh Hasina might have done bad things during big protests, and they said she was involved in hurting people.
Many people were hurt or killed during the protests, according to a report from the United Nations.
