Threat to Indore IIT: Young Man’s Anger Sparks Bomb Threat

A young man’s anger over not securing a job culminated in a significant threat to the IIT campus in Indore. In a bid to incite terror, he sent an email threatening to blow up the IIT campus at Simrol. The email created immediate panic upon its receipt, triggering a swift response from authorities. Following an intensive 16-day investigation, the police apprehended the individual responsible for the threat.

Details of the Threatening Email

On July 17th, the IIT campus at Simrol, Indore, received a threatening email. The email, sent from the address sumit2813xyz@gmail.com, targeted the PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya located on the IIT campus. The message warned of a bomb blast scheduled for August 15th. The sender claimed to be an agent of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Police Response and Investigation

The arrival of the email prompted immediate action. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and other officers rushed to the scene, and a cyber team was brought in to assist with the investigation. The police conducted a meticulous 16-day probe, which ultimately led them to Chetan Soni, a resident of Badnagar, Ujjain. He was arrested in Indore.

Interrogation and Motive

During interrogation, Chetan Soni revealed the motive behind his actions. In 2022, he had applied for a job at IIT Indore but was rejected. This rejection sparked intense anger and frustration in him. Consumed by rage, he decided to instill fear by threatening to bomb the campus. His email had the desired effect, spreading panic among the campus community.

The authorities took the threat very seriously, given the potential danger it posed.
