WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature for its Communities that allows the transfer of ownership within community settings.
After a long period of development, this feature is finally being released, although currently only for select users. The transfer ownership option will now appear in the info section of WhatsApp Communities, allowing users to easily transfer community ownership.
Details of the New WhatsApp Communities Feature
According to WABetaInfo, a site that tracks WhatsApp’s upcoming features, this new update is part of the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.19.34, available on the Google Play Store. With this update, users can now transfer ownership of any community with ease.
A screenshot shared in the report shows a new “Assign New Owner” option in the community settings. This option appears above “Exit Community,” “Report Community,” and “Deactivate Community” and is available to those community owners who have more than one administrator.
How the Feature Works
Community owners can now assign a new owner, transferring all administrator privileges to them. Once the transfer is complete, the original owner will no longer have control over major decisions, such as enabling the community, though they will still remain an admin.
Currently, this feature is available only for select Android beta users. After testing, it will eventually roll out to all users in the stable version of WhatsApp.
