Yellow alert in Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has given a yellow warning for Delhi, Gurgaon, and Faridabad on Monday, June 23.

This means there might be heavy rain, thunder, and strong winds. The IMD also says that the monsoon, which is a big rainy season, is about to start in Delhi and nearby areas. It might arrive by June 24, which would be the earliest start since 2013 when it came on June 16. The monsoon is also moving into other parts of India, like Chandigarh, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir, over the next two days.

Gurgaon and Faridabad, which are near Delhi, are also under the yellow alert. They will likely see heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning all day. In fact, the monsoon has already reached most parts of Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Kashmir, and some parts of Punjab, according to the weather department. These weather patterns are expected to continue for the next two days, June 24 and 25.

On Tuesday, there will be several rain showers at different times of the day, including morning, noon, evening, and night. A picture shows a man standing under a big umbrella to stay dry in the rain in New Delhi on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.

In the past years, the monsoon started in Delhi on June 28 in 2023, June 30 in 2022, and as late as July 13 in 2021. The weather forecast also says that heavy rain is expected in northwest India, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and the regions of Konkan and Goa until June 26. Madhya Pradesh might see very heavy rains on June 23 and 24.
