X (formerly known as Twitter) has introduced a new feature that allows users to edit messages in direct messages (DMs), a functionality already available on platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp. Unlike these platforms, where message editing is often constrained by time limits, X has made this feature available without any such restrictions, providing users greater flexibility in managing their communications.
Elon Musk, the owner of X, has been actively working to transform the micro-blogging platform into a more versatile social media space, akin to Instagram and Facebook. Over the past few months, X has been gradually rolling out features such as video and audio calling, further aligning the platform with other social media giants. The latest addition, the ability to edit DMs, is another step in this direction.
This feature was announced through a tweet from X’s official account, highlighting that users can now correct typos or make adjustments to messages after they’ve been sent. The rollout of the feature has begun on iOS, with plans to expand it to other platforms soon. A company engineer shared details of the feature’s availability, along with a screenshot that clearly shows how it functions.
To use the DM edit feature on X, users need to open the DM section, select the chat, and then long press on the message they wish to edit. A three-dot menu will appear, from which they can select the “Edit Message” option. This straightforward process allows for easy message corrections without the pressure of a time limit, a significant departure from platforms like WhatsApp, where users have only 15 minutes to make edits.
This update represents X’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience by incorporating popular features from other platforms while adding its unique twist, such as the absence of a time limit for message editing.
