Flipkart Faces Hefty Penalty for Wrong Product Delivery
Flipkart is facing significant challenges, as it has been penalized with a fine 10 times higher than the value of a wrong product delivery.
Incidents of incorrect deliveries by Flipkart have become a frequent occurrence. Recently, the platform concluded its popular Big Billion Days Sale, but complaints of inadequate service continue to surface. One such case led to the consumer forum imposing a fine nearly 10 times the product’s cost. Despite multiple complaints, Flipkart failed to replace the item, prompting the forum’s intervention. Here’s what happened in detail.
Fine on Flipkart
In November 2021, Lalit Kumar, a resident of Najafgarh, Delhi, ordered a Bluetooth headphone from Flipkart. He received his delivery on November 10, but upon opening the package the next day, he found a wired headphone instead of the Bluetooth one he had ordered.
Kumar immediately filed a complaint with Flipkart requesting a return, but the company rejected his request, citing that the complaint was made beyond the 48-hour window. The item cost Rs 1,299, and despite repeated attempts, the issue remained unresolved.
As a result, the Delhi Consumer Forum, headed by Chairman Suresh Kumar Gupta, along with Harshali Kaur and Ramesh Chandra Yadav, imposed a Rs 10,000 fine on both Flipkart and the headphone manufacturer.
This incident is not isolated. Similar cases of wrong deliveries by Flipkart have surfaced before, with customers receiving items like soap bars instead of iPhones. Many frustrated customers have taken to social media to voice their concerns, leading to growing apprehension about shopping on the platform.
