Google unveiled a new feature called “UPI Circle” at its Google for India 2024 event, available on the Google Pay app. This feature aims to simplify financial transactions, especially for those who still rely on cash. According to Google, UPI Circle will be rolled out soon.
What is UPI Circle?
UPI Circle allows trusted friends or family members to make digital payments on behalf of users who may not be comfortable with digital transactions. With this feature, neither you nor the person helping needs to link a bank account; payments can be made directly from their Google Pay account.
How many people can use UPI Circle?
UPI Circle supports one primary user and up to five secondary users. However, each secondary user can only belong to one UPI Circle at a time.
Types of Permissions in UPI Circle:
- Full Rights: You can give someone full control to transfer money from your Google Pay account. You can also set a monthly transfer limit.
- Partial Rights: You can grant limited permissions, where the person must seek your approval for each transaction.
Security Measures:
For added security, there is a 30-minute waiting period before someone can be added to your Google Pay account. This is designed to enhance protection, especially for families with elderly members or children who may not be familiar with digital payments.
How to Use UPI Circle:
The feature is available on both Android and iOS. Ensure your app is updated.
Your Google Pay account must be linked to a bank.
The recipient’s UPI ID must be saved in your contacts.
The recipient needs to open their Google Pay app and scan your QR code.
Select either “Full Rights” or “Partial Rights” and approve the person.
Payment Limits:
Once UPI Circle is set up, your friend or family member can make payments up to ₹15,000 per month. Every transaction will require your approval, and both parties will be able to track the status of payments within Google Pay.
