Portuguese attacker Joao Felix will be part of the Chelsea squad for the remainder of the season, having moved to Stamford Bridge on loan from Atletico Madrid. Joao Felix has landed in London to have a medical with Chelsea. Joao Felix has been granted permission by Atletico Madrid to join Chelsea. The 23-year-old previously played for SL Benfica before switching to the Spanish capital in the summer of 2019, for a record fee of $135 million.
Chelsea manager Graham Potter has heaped praise on new signing Joao Felix, calling him a quality player who gives everyone at the club a lift.
On moving on loan to Chelsea, Joao Felix said: ‘Chelsea is one of the great teams in the world and I hope to help the team reach their objectives, so I am very, very happy to be here and very excited to play at Stamford Bridge.’
Joao Felix was part of the Atletico Madrid squad which won the La Liga two seasons ago and as a teenager at Benfica, he was also a league champion, in his debut season he won the Portugal Primeira Liga. He won the 2019 Golden Boy award as the best young player in Europe.
Chelsea has agreed to pay Atletico a loan fee of almost €11m for Felix. Felix will wear the number 11 shirt for Chelsea. He will earn over £250,000 per week. Chelsea has beaten Manchester United and Arsenal in the race for Felix. Felix’s deal, though, has no buy option. The player also extended his contract with Atletico Madrid till 2027 before leaving on loan.
At the FIFA World Cup 2022, Felix scored a important goal in Portugal’s opening game, a victory over Ghana and he provided two assists during the tournament. Joao Felix, has made 131 appearances for Atletico Madrid since his move to the club in 2019. He scored 34 goals and provided 18 assists.
