Satellite images of US strikes in Iran

Some Iranian officials told a newspaper that Iran might have moved some of its uranium—the stuff used to make nuclear energy or bombs—out of the site before the attacks, in case they would happen. The United States’ leader, Donald Trump, said that their military attacks completely destroyed three of Iran’s nuclear sites.

But, the pictures from space haven’t shown for sure if that is true. Some of the big buildings and parts of Iran’s nuclear places were damaged, and we can see this on pictures taken from space. But, some parts look okay, and we aren’t sure how much damage happened underground, where some of the work is hidden below the ground.

At one site called Fordow, which is built into the side of a mountain near Tehran, there are holes and cracks in the ground and on the mountain ridge. But, a building that probably helps control the underground work looks like it was not damaged. Before the attacks, President Trump warned Iran and even talked about sending troops.

The uranium that Iran had, which was almost high enough to be used for making a nuclear bomb, might have been taken away before the strikes. Another site called Natanz has also been looked at, and a new hole about 5.5 meters wide was seen. But, it’s not clear if the underground part of this site, which is buried deep under the ground with very thick walls, was hit or not.
