Pant also became only the second wicketkeeper-batsman after Andy Flower to score hundreds in both parts of a Test match.
As India prepares for an important game against England at Edgbaston, Pant hopes to earn another special record, which is now held by the famous Indian player Virat Kohli.
Even though India lost, fans were happy to see Pant playing so well again after a tough time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. It was a big relief for his fans. In this match, Pant made some new records. He became the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman with the most hundreds (scores of 100 or more runs) in Test cricket.
He broke MS Dhoni’s record of 6 hundreds by scoring a fantastic 118 runs in the second innings, hitting the ball well over a long time. Right now, Pant and Kohli each have five hundreds against England. Pant went from 3 to 5 hundreds with his two big scores in the first game.
He just needs one more hundred in the next matches to beat Kohli. If he scores a hundred at Edgbaston, he will tie with Mohammad Azharuddin, another great Indian player, who scored six hundreds against England.
The record for most hundreds against England is held by Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid, with 7 each. Pant hopes to do even better at Edgbaston in the next game, helping India come back after a tough start and try to win the series.
Pant did an amazing job in the first big cricket game of the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy by scoring two hundred-run scores in a row. But even though he played so well, India still lost the game because they couldn’t stop the other team from reaching their goal of 371 runs in the second part of the match.
