One year has passed since the last World Cup. The last World Cup was held in Qatar last year. Argentina beat France to win the title in a thrilling final at the Lusail Stadium. According to an internal update from the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the governing body for football in the country, there is speculation regarding hosting certain matches of the 2034 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia. FIFA recently confirmed that Saudi Arabia will serve as the host nation for the 2034 World Cup.
In response to this news, AIFF President Kalyan Choubey has discussed with the members of the Executive Committee that India should explore the possibility of hosting some matches during the 2034 FIFA World Cup. Notably, the upcoming tournament will feature 48 teams, with a total of 104 matches scheduled to be played. The proposal suggests that approximately 10 of these matches could be organized in India.
It is worth mentioning that the 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup will be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Following this, the 2030 World Cup is scheduled to be hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal. On the occasion of the centenary of the World Cup, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay of the South American continent are selected to host kickoff matches to begin the 2030 World Cup. After that, Saudi Arabia is set to host the 2034 edition of the prestigious tournament.
