There were no longer many doubts about the future of Squid Game and now Ted Sarandos, CEO of Netflix, has dispelled the remaining ones, confirming the 2nd season of Squid Game.
Sarandos confirmed that the platform’s most popular series will return for another season, in line with previous comments from its creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk. According to Variety , the confirmation came during an interview surrounding the company’s fiscal results, when Sarandos was asked if Squid Game would have another season. The answer left no room for doubt.
“Absolutely. The Squid Game universe is just beginning.”
Squid Game was a real phenomenon in 2021, becoming the most watched series on Netflix, having reached 214 million subscribers worldwide.
Hwang Dong-hyuk previously confirmed the return of Squid Game, and even confessed to being in talks for a third season. The creator also promised the return of Gi-Hun, the main character of the series.
“I promise you this, Gi-hun will come back. He will do something for the world.”
Now we just need to know the premiere date of the 2nd season, something that remains unknown at the moment. Until then, we’ll still have a lot of content coming from South Korea, with Netflix redoubling its bet on the country’s original content. In 2022, we will be able to count on 25 original productions , among them All of us Are Dead , with premiere scheduled for January 28th.
